Dear fellow coaches,

As the rain slows, the floodwaters start to recede, and the sun peeks through the clouds, I’m amazed at the strength and resilience our greater Houston community has shown during Hurricane Harvey. Many of you, our community of coaches, are still battling difficult situations and my heart goes out to you and your families. My greatest wish for you is your safety and the safety of your loved ones.

During the past few days I’ve received incredible support from our ICF coaching community around the world, as well as from ICF Global and our fellow Texas chapters. I want to pass on this spirit of connecting to you as well. We are part of a global network, and we have people standing ready to support our group of Houston Coaches. Knowing that the recovery of our area will be a marathon not a sprint, I’m asking from my heart that you reach out to others in our coaching community and your neighbors to offer help AND to receive help. I’ve learned through this experience to offer help without the fear of imposing and to ask for help can create amazing results. Offer a hand where you can, and don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it!

Personally, I have felt very small during these days, but with the support, messages, and conversations with my fellow board members who shared their intelligence, wit, compassion, love and resourcefulness — I’m empowered! That’s what we do as coaches – empower. To support your empowerment, below are some ways that you can help with the recovery efforts.

As we stand together as a community, I know that we can get through anything and make it better.

With love,

Cecilia Engquist
Chapter President 2016 - 2017
