February 2021: Letter from the President
Celebrate Black History Month by Visiting ICF Houston's Diversity & Inclusion Resources Page
Lindsey Honari, ACC, MBA
In February, we celebrate Black History Month as a way to recognize the generations of African Americans who struggled with adversity to achieve full citizenship in American society. We pause to become aware of and honor those whose lives and actions, no matter how great or how small, “bent the arc of the moral universe towards justice.”
As coaches, we consider our clients’ context, identity, environment, experiences, values, and beliefs as we partner with them in unlocking their potential. However, we cannot help our clients reach their greatest potential unless we also work against entrenched conditions that limit it.
Throughout the month, we will provide resources to help you explore and celebrate black history and culture. Visit our Diversity and Inclusion resources page for books, articles, and videos, as well as keep an eye out for postings on ICF Houston’s LinkedIn and Instagram pages. You can also read about ICF Houston’s participation in a pilot coaching program for underserved teens and young adults in our Community Outreach update.
Our theme for 2021 is to SUSTAIN - to strengthen and support. We want ICF Houston to be a resource and home for all professional coaches, wherever you are in your journey as a coach. To deliver a meaningful and valuable experience, we need your input. Please take a few minutes to complete the 2021 Membership Survey.
As always, I want to thank our sponsors - The Doerr Institute for New Leaders, Birkman International, and BALM Family Recovery, as welcome our newest sponsor, Tandem Coaching Academy, an ICF-accredited training program that specializes in blending professional coaching with Agile coaching. I invite you to visit their sites and explore the valuable services they provide to professional coaches.
We look forward to serving you in 2021.
