Webinar: Implicit Bias in Coaching
implicit bias in coaching: the value of uncovering it and the tools to move beyond it
March 31, 12-1PM
Presenter: Barrett Mcbride, phd, mcc
*1 CCEU in Core Competencies
Most of us carry implicit biases with us and many of us have been on the receiving end of implicit bias. The objective of this highly interactive webinar is to learn to recognize implicit bias within ourselves, as well as our clients, and develop the ability to put it aside when we are coaching.
Implicit bias is one of the toughest things to uncover in a coaching engagement. Not only is it unconscious, but the way in which it is expressed is often so subtle that it can produce no more than a passing curious moment or momentary discomfort.
However, the subtlety of implicit bias has been described by people on the receiving end as "death by a thousand cuts". It can be as insidious as more overt forms of bias.
In this webinar, participants will learn:
- what implicit bias is
- what the current research tells us
- the ways implicit bias shows up in coaching
- how to identify implicit bias within ourselves and our clients
- ways to use implicit bias as a learning opportunity to deepen coaching mastery through expanding mindfulness, curiosity, and other tools
