Mentor Coaching

ICF Houston offers a comprehensive mentoring program designed to enhance your coaching skills and credentials. Mentor Coaching is available to any coach renewing or seeking their ICF Credential. Mentor Coaches highlighted below are all active ICF Houston Chapter members.

What is Mentor Coaching?

Mentor Coaching for an ICF Credential consists of coaching and feedback in a collaborative, appreciative and dialogued process based on an observed or recorded coaching session to increase the coach’s capability in coaching, in alignment with the ICF Core Competencies. Mentor Coaching is required when renewing or seeking a new ICF Credential.

Mentoring provides professional assistance in achieving and demonstrating the levels of coaching competency and capability demanded by the desired credential level. Mentor Coaching takes place over an extended time (three-month minimum) in a cycle that allows for listening and feedback from the Mentor Coach while also allowing reflection and practice on the part of the individual being mentored.

Program Structure:

Per ICF guidelines, a minimum of three of the 10 mentoring hours must be one-on-one with the mentor coach. Group mentoring may count for a maximum of seven hours towards the mentoring requirement and must be a group of 10 or fewer.

ICF Houston Chapter Mentor Coaching program is comprised of 10 mentoring sessions, tailored to meet the diverse needs of aspiring and experienced coaches. Focus is on core competency development by reviewing and providing oral and written feedback on a series of the mentee’s coaching sessions. Mentor sessions will be conducted one at a time, with a feedback session between each one, giving enough time between sessions to allow for incorporation of the mentee’s learning and development. You will receive specific verbal and/or written feedback, using targeted examples from the sessions so that you will know exactly what you are doing well and what needs to be done to develop a deeper level of mastery in coaching.
